Nova #31 (V6)

The issue begins with Sam looking at all the asteroids headed towards Earth, and he comes to the bleak realization that there’s no way he can stop them all. However, when everything seems the darkest, Beta Ray Bill suddenly appears and begins blasting the asteroids. Following Beta Ray Bill, Rocket Raccoon shows up in a ship, tagging along with Captain Marvel, Iron Man, and the all new female Thor. While they handle the oncoming asteroids, Nova goes after the Chitauri and comes face to face with Warbringer again. Nova grabs him and begins plummeting towards the sun, demanding that Warbringer leave Earth alone. Warbringer refuses, thinking Sam would never put him through the sun, but as the two approach at blinding speed, faster and faster, closer and closer to the sun, Warbringer realizes that Sam is serious. When Warbringer shouts, “You will kill us both!” Sam replies, “A small price to pay to save my planet!”

When Sam emerges from the other side of the sun, he is alive; but only charred remains remain of Warbringer. Sam grabs the remains and throws it in front of the Chitauri, warning them that this is what happens to those who threaten the Earth. Sam then returns to his father, where the others depart, leaving Sam and Jesse standing on the Earth’s moon. Sam takes his father home, who knocks on the door and asks Sam’s mom to do a favor, and call in sick. Sam meets his father in the backyard after a moment, trying to apologize for his part in losing the house. His father grabs him and hugs him tightly, explaining how proud he is of Sam – and how Sam didn’t even scratch his helmet. His father leaves to go inside for dinner, and Sam stands in the backyard, realizing that his father would now be reclaiming his helmet he once wore. Sam joins his father for dinner.

Light years away, Warbringer’s corpse stirs and much to his surprise – he had survived the trip through the sun – only through Chitauri technology! And now, more than ever, he was bent on kill Nova – any Nova – that stood in his way.
