This is for a signed copy of NEW WARRIORS #1 - signed by Kevin Grevioux! I have 9 copies to offer (well, 10 - but I am keeping one for myself!)

THE IDEA?
The idea for the contest is to "guess" who you think is behind the NIGHT THRASHER armor. Now, keep in mind! It doesn't even have to be a serious guess! It can be one that's completely silly! Think Hulk or maybe Slapstick is in the armor? Even if you don't think that - if you write a creative enough bio and reason - you can still win no matter how ridiculous it is!

RULES:

1. You can "enter" as many times as you would like. So you can enter in 1 profile idea or 50 of them. However, if more than one of your profiles is up for winning a copy of a signed issue - only ONE per person! So even if you have three profiles that win - you will only get ONE copy! This is to ensure that everyone who submits has a fair shake at getting a copy!

2. Because I am footing (the shipping costs) for this out of my own pocket, I am going to have to restrict this to only those who are within the United States.

3. Only MARVEL UNIVERSE characters can be used! The only exception is if you come up with a "custom" character to be in Night Thrasher's armor! We can't have folks from DC Comics and IMAGE Comics or any other non MARVEL UNIVERSE comic coming here and trying to steal Night Thrasher's armor!

4. Only replies in THIS thread will be considered. If you make a new post, even in this section of the forum, the entry will NOT be considered, unless it's reposted in here. I will NOT repost your entry for you into this thread. So obviously, you MUST be registered and able to post on THIS forum to enter.

5. Your entry must be of YOUR own writing! So even if you pick that it's Aegis (for example) in Night Thrasher's armor - you CAN NOT copy Aegis' entry here on New Warriors Dot Com and then just add the Night Thrasher portion to the bottom! Feel free to use the Aegis profile (for example) as a guide - but rewrite it into your own words! NO PLAGIARISM!

6. If someone posts a profile that seems VERY similiar to someone else's submission - the submission that was posted FIRST will be considered, and the second one will either be disqualified or asked to be rewritten (and then deleted from the thread).

7. We encourage creativity! Like we said - it can be a serious entry or it can be completely outlandish! It will be judged on it's creative aspects! This is however, a family friendly site - please keep that in mind, and avoid using anything that you wouldn't see in a standard MARVEL UNIVERSE comic!

8. We will determine, based on the contest's outcome, when it will begin to close for submissions! We will also determine if winners will be selected by us or by a poll, depending on the outcome of this contest!

9. Fill out EVERYTHING in the profile section below! Simply COPY and PASTE the "blank" PROFILE into a reply to this thread - and fill it ALL out. If you leave out anything, your entry will NOT be considered. (So even if you do a custom, give him or her a first appearance!) If you're using a legit Marvel Character, and there's something unknown about them - say like their "height" - fill it in on what YOU think it is or should be.

10. The "History" portion of the character profile MUST tell how this character came to own or become NIGHT THRASHER. This is the part we're really looking at! So make it good!

Questions about the "Who Is Night Thrasher" Contest? Post all of your questions, comments, concerns over here. Questions asked in THIS thread will be deleted and left unanswered. This thread is STRICTLY for profile submissions.

NIGHT THRASHER

Real Name: Andrew Chord

Aliases: None

Identity: Public

Occupation: (former) Executive of the Taylor Foundation, sergeant of U.S. Army, fitness trainer; (current) Business accountant

Citizenship: United States of America, no known criminal record

Place of Birth: Unrevealed

Known Relatives: Miyami (wife, deceased); Midnight's Fire (son); Silhouette (daughter); Tai (mother-in-law, deceased); Dwayne Taylor ("Night Thrasher", foster son, deceased); Elvin Haliday ("Rage", foster son)

Group Affiliation: (former) The Half-Fulls; (current) The New Warriors

First Appearance: The Mighty Thor #411

History:

Not much is known about Andrew Chord prior to his time serving in the Vietnam War. While in Vietnam, he worked with a six-man group named the Half-Fulls, a unit given the task of finding landing sites for American aircraft in Cambodia. Just north of the Se Kong River, the Half-Fulls stumbled on a strange pyramid-like structure.

Immediately upon finding the structure, an old woman restrained the Half-Fulls. She revealed herself as Tai and the structure as the Temple of the Dragon's Breadth. She intended the Half-Fulls to mate with children of the Temple to fulfill an ancient pact. The members of the Half-Fulls complied except for Daryl Taylor, who was already married.

Chord married Miyami, Tai's daughter, and returned with her to the United States where he fathered two children, Midnight's Fire and Silhouette. However, to keep the children safe from Tai and the pact, Miyami faked her and her children's deaths.

Chord felt so distraught over their deaths that he traveled the world. Eventually, he returned to the Temple of the Dragon's Breadth and told Tai of his family's deaths. Tai returned with Chord to the United States where, to fulfill his role in the pact, she made him renew his friendship with fellow pact member Daryl Taylor, who by then had fathered a child named Dwayne with his wife Melody. So close were Chord and Daryl that Chord became Dwayne's godfather.

Shortly after, however, Tai forced Chord to kill Daryl and Melody, which he did in front of Dwayne in a Chinese restaurant. To hide the identity of Daryl and Melody's killer, Tai erased Chord's role in their deaths from Dwayne's mind. Chord and Tai went on to raise Dwayne as their son. Chord began training Dwayne in combat and encouraged him to become a vigilante to deal with what had happened to his parents. Dwayne did under the identity of Night Thrasher

Chord took over the role of operator of business affairs at Daryl's company, the Taylor Foundation. However, he used the company's finances for illegal dealings, one that included a man named Gideon.

Dwayne soon met Midnight's Fire and Silhouette and formed a crime-fighting trio. Chord and Tai didn't recognize them as Chord's supposedly dead children. A falling out that resulted in the paralysis of Silhouette's legs led the three to split apart, at which point Chord encouraged Dwayne to form a new group.

Dwayne formed that new group under the name the New Warriors. Chord became their pilot, trainer, and support worker, sometimes accompanying them on missions, one of which would reunite him with Cable.

Soon, Dwayne discovered Chord's abuse of the Taylor Foundation's finances. A confrontation led Chord to attempt suicide by headshot. He was rushed to a hospital where medicine, along with magical intervention from Tai, healed him.

When Dwayne fled to Cambodia for answers about his past, Chord directed the New Warriors to follow him.

No longer the New Warriors' helicopter pilot, Chord referred the team to Sprocket, an old mercenary buddy of his. Sprocket soon became their replacement helicopter pilot and rekindled her friendship with Chord.

After months of rehabilitation, Chord helped the New Warriors by adopting Elvin Haliday after his grandmother was murdered. He also helped find the team when the Sphinx separated them throughout time.

Soon after this, Chord lost contact with the New Warriors until he watched Dwayne die in an explosion caused by Nitro, an event known as the Stamford Incident. Filled with grief after seeing his adopted son die, he mourned for weeks. Growing angrier with the public outcry against the New Warriors, a team he helped to form and train, he descended into depression.

With the passing of the Superhero Registration Act, Chord grew more cynical about the so-called authority, an authority he saw as apathetic toward Dwayne's plight when dealing with his parents' murder, an authority he trained Dwayne to see as unresponsive against the street-level crimes that eroded the country's morals. When Captain America, who Chord saw as the last surviving symbol of freedom, died, Chord vowed to take action.

Finding an old suit of Dwayne's Night Thrasher armor, Chord donned it as a symbol of rebellion. Under the name Night Thrasher, he gathered other people that shunned the authority of superhero registration. He now leads a new team of New Warriors in memory of his adopted son's superhero family.

Height: 6'

Weight: 210 lbs.

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Black (bald)

Powers: None

Weapons and accessories:

While wearing the Night Thrasher armor, Chord's entire body is an arsenal of weapons.

His armor is built with bullet-proof material that also increases its wearer's lifting strength, punching impact, and running lengths.

His armor includes two truncheons, batons about 1 foot long. It includes weapons such as a back-mounted Uzi, a garrotting wire, smoke pellets, plastique, an 8-inch retractable knife, and pepper spray. It also holds a 15-minute air supply.

To hide his identity, his helmet has a voice distorter, making his voice grittier and lower. His eye plate, which is tinged yellow, has been fitted with infrared, ultraviolet, and telescopic abilities. His helmet has also been fitted with a radio that can pick up police wavelengths.

Though Dwayne had mounted a skateboard on the armor's back, Chord replaced this board with an Adamantium shield.

Abilities:

Chord is an expert at armed and unarmed combat. He can also pilot a helicopter.

Weaknesses:

Chord has had to learn to compensate for the armor's added weight while in combat.

NIGHT THRASHER

Real Name: Dwayne Taylor

Aliases: Deir Taylor

Identity: Secret

Occupation: Head of the Taylor Foundation

Citizenship: Assyrian

Place of Birth: United States of Assyria

Known Relatives: Deir Taylor (father); Claire Taylor (mother)

Group Affiliation: New Warriors; Taylor Foundation

First Appearance: New Warriors (vol. 1) #12

History:
Once upon a time, a woman was in love. She would do anything for this love, including changing the course of history itself, rewriting the world so that Egypt became the controlling power of the globe.

In this new world, a young boy named Dwayne was born in the United States of Assyria. He lived a normal life with his affluent parents and best friend, Franklin Richards. That all changed when it was discovered his father, Deir, and Reed Richards were assisting a rebellion against the Sphinx, ruler of this world. The Sphinx’s elite guard gunned down both families, with only Dwayne escaping. He vowed to avenge his family; while attempting to do so, members of the rebellion forced the Sphinx to correct history, changing everything back to as it was.

Or so they thought.

Dwayne escaped this change, ending up in Europe without a memory. He couldn’t recall personal details – who he was, his family – but he did remember the world, and this wasn’t how it was supposed to be. He traveled Europe for several months before making his way to a city of gods and monsters where he hoped he could find answers – New York.

Dwayne arrived in Manhattan the night the man called Darkling enveloped the city in Darkforce energy. Having rage and sadness pent up inside of him – but still not knowing why – Dwayne was easily controlled by the darkness and found himself in the Darkforce Dimension. It was there that someone called out his name, triggering a flood of memories about what had happened. The man who spoke to him was Diego Casseas, the Left Hand, who had mistaken him for this world’s Dwayne Taylor. Casseas used his teleportation powers while plummeting into the magical Well of All Things, leaving him trapped in the Darkforce Dimension. Dwayne forced Casseas to tell him everything he knew about this realm’s Dwayne before the heroes defeated Darkling, releasing everyone from his grasp. Dwayne could still feel some of the darkness within his soul, and he promptly killed Casseas for his evil ways.

Dwayne contemplated attacking the New Warriors for taking his world from him, but realized that without his friends and family, there was no world for him anyway. He decided he would work in this world to fight the corruption that had taken his family from him. He decided to start with the remaining members of Casseas’ Folding Circle. He eventually found Midnight’s Fire, who just happened to be stalking the “real” Dwayne Taylor, aka Night Thrasher. Confused at first, Night Thrasher gladly accepted his double’s help against Fire, until Dwayne beat the man nearly to death. Thrash stopped him before he killed Fire, telling him he would regret it.

After this encounter, Dwayne explained his tale to Night Thrasher; Thrash vaguely recalled the experience, but didn’t know his other self had been preserved. Knowing there couldn’t be two Dwayne Taylors, the alternate Dwayne took the name Deir, after his father. Deir wanted to continue fighting crime, but Dwayne knew that his tough past, without the time to come to terms with it, as well as the Darkforce that seemed to still reside within him, mane Deir a loose cannon.

Dwayne had a solution for this: let Deir, posing as Dwayne himself, run the Taylor Foundation. This would work twofold: it would allow Dwayne to operate full time as Night Thrasher while leaving the company in good hands, and would allow Deir, through the Foundation’s various organizations, still help people on a global scale, as well as help him control the demons within.

The two worked as such for years, with no one knowing that, while Dwayne Taylor and Night Thrasher were on and the same, they were also two separate individuals. Deir occasionally worked as Night Thrasher but spent most of his time in a business suit rather than body armor.

Deir eventually met a boy named Zachary Smith, a child abandoned by his father when his mutant abilities were discovered. The boy’s father eventually died, and Deir, remembering the pain of losing his own family, adopted him. However, Zachary had low self-esteem and was easily pushed around; Deir gave him to Dwayne as a sort of sidekick to build his confidence fighting crime; Microbe, as he was soon called, was the only one who knew that the “Taylor Foundation” Dwayne Taylor and “Night Thrasher” Dwayne Taylor were two separate individuals.

Deir soon discovered an attack on his company by several organizations, including Planet: Earth, Obadiah Stane, and dummy corporations of the Hellfire Club. Despite his best efforts, the Taylor Foundation faced bankruptcy. Dwayne’s temporary solution was to reform the Warriors as a television show while Deir confronted the various members who drove them out of business, many of whom were known to them as villains. Deir did so, traveling the globe to stop the corruption.

However, Deir took too long. He returned to America to find a mess. The Foundation had completely gone under, and Dwayne, along with Microbe and several other Warriors, were killed and the superhero community at odds. Deir decided to not involve himself, instead focusing on reviving the Foundation. After the “Civil War” was over, Deir revived the Night Thrasher mantle, forming a new band of New Warriors to honor his “brother” and his work.

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 210 lbs.

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Black

Powers: None known. It is assumed he still carries part of the Darkforce within him; whether or not he can manipulate this is unknown. Expert martial artist.

Accessories: Deir uses a new model of the Night Thrasher armor, using Dwayne’s research and the original design. The suit is completely bullet-, tear-, and fire-proof.

His helmet contains a visor, enabled with infrared vision, night vision, a telescoping lens, and photo-taking capabilities, linked to a mainframe in his hideout. The helmet has communications capabilities and protects from telepathic probing.

His suit increases his strength approximately threefold; “jump jets” on his boots allow him a vertical leap of about fifteen feet. He has a wrist-mounted flame thrower and taser on his left arm and a rubber bullet-launching mechanism on his right; he employs several other objects, kept in pouches, including pepper spray, flashbangs, and other non-lethal devices.

As means of transportaion, Night Thrasher has a detachable hoverboard, which connects to his back, and is composed of a vibranium/adamantium alloy.

Note: Origin found in the “Forever Yesterday” arc in NW vol. 1 11-13.

EDIT: Fixed the issue numbers for Forever Yesterday...sorry.

NIGHT THRASHER

Real Name: Dwayne Taylor

Aliases: None

Identity: Public

Occupation: Former Chief Executive Officer, Taylor Foundation; former TV reality show star; current CEO, TransFinancial Corporation

Citizenship: American

Place of Birth: New York City, New York

Known Relatives: Darryl (father, deceased); Melody (mother, deceased); Donyell (half-brother, aka Bandit, deceased); Andrew Chord (godfather)

Group Affiliation: New Warriors; Psionex; Folding Circle

First Appearance: The Mighty Thor #411

History: Dwayne Taylor, having seen his parents murdered before his eyes, formed the New Warriors to help avenge their murders by taking down the kind of criminals that superheroes like Captain America didn’t touch – the common street criminals that preyed on everyday citizens. Through some ingenious and dubious methods, Dwayne, together with his godfather, Chord, and his housekeeper Tai, recruited Nova, Firestar and Marvel Boy (later called Justice). A battle with Terrax was the team’s baptism of fire and added members in the form of Namorita and Speedball, a fact that did not sit well with Chord and Tai.

The New Warriors fought many battles together and apart. Dwayne proved to be adept at leading the team, but his selfishness and inability to be a team player (facts strangely encouraged by Chord and Tai) led to animosity within the team. Later, when Dwayne found out that Chord had been using Taylor Foundation funds to work deals with the likes of Hydra, A.I.M, Gideon and the Yakuza, he set out on his own to discover his past. This led him to the Folding Circle, a team made up of the children of Vietnam vets that was seeking the fabled Temple of the Dragon’s Breath in Cambodia. During the Vietnam War, Chord and a unit of men called the Half Fulls stumbled on the temple. There, Tai offered them power and wealth if they would marry her daughters. All the members except the unit leader, Lt. Darryl Taylor, agreed.

Tai wanted to use the children of these illicit unions to bring out the full power of the temple. The New Warriors were intended to be sacrifices that would bring forth the ultimate power. Fortunately, the New Warriors didn’t let Thrasher down and came to his rescue. In the end, he ended Tai’s schemes by shooting her point blank with his Uzi.

Relations with the New Warriors proved to be on-again off-again afterwards, as his teammates truly saw him in a better light. They weren’t ready to accept his type of leadership, one that included the possibility of crossing the line by killing – after all, he had killed Tai, albeit in self-defense, he had gone toe-to-toe with the Punisher, had even teamed up with Frank Castle to save Nova in the “Round Robin Affair. Heck, he had even decapitated the Mad Thinker (NW Vol. 1 #3) before discovering the Thinker was just an android.

The last straw proved to be the events surrounding the Soldiers of Misfortune. The Warriors, bereft of leadership from Dwayne as he had gone off by himself yet again, ventured to Africa to help deal with the famine. They got taken apart at the seams by Undertow and Protocol. Although Nova brought in Turbo and Powerhouse to effect a rescue, the team lost Kymaera, who became a Soldier of Misfortune. The team later confronted Night Thrasher (Vol. 1 #57) and Nova gave everyone an ultimatum – either Night Thrasher left or he left. Although everyone, including Justice, thought Dwayne was a great strategist, they also thought he was not a team player. Only Rage stayed with Night Thrasher.

Dwayne meandered around for a while on his own and eventually took over leadership of Psionex (Vol. 1 #64). Vowing to make amends for failing to help the New Warriors when they needed him, he masterminded a raid on Undertow (Vol. 1 #73-74). He and Rage raided Undertow and Dwayne, showing he can be ruthless when needed, shot Protocol, although Protocol survived). He and Rage escaped with Namorita.

Dwayne again proved himself. When the Dire Wraith, Volx, rendered the New Warriors powerless (Vol. 1 #75), she thought herself master of the world. Night Thrasher, however, reminded her differently, by popping out his blade and shoving it into the back of her head. None of the other New Warriors had been able to “cross the line” and kill someone but Dwayne had learned that, sometimes, it was necessary.

Dwayne made amends with the New Warriors and thus ended Vol. 1. He appeared in Vol. 2 (#6-9), in action against The Hand and Junzo Muto, who wants to lead The Hand and seeks to prove it by killing Iron Fist. When the New Warriors fall to Muto and The Hand, only Night Thrasher is able to hold his own. The New Warriors intervene, however, when they realize Thrasher will fight to the death to prevent Muto from winning. Not wanting to “cross the line,” they grab him and Danny Rand (aka Iron Fist) and flee. They later invite Dwayne to join them, but he laughs them off and leaves, saying that until they get real leadership, they’ll lose every fight they’re in (which proves sadly true).

In Vol. 3, Dwayne found himself in a sad (and potentially humiliating) situation. With the Taylor Foundation nearly broke, Thrasher is forced to make a deal with the producers of a reality TV show. He takes the New Warriors (himself, Namorita, Speedball, Nova and Microbe on the road to battle the likes of Tigershark and The Armadillo.
Nova eventually tired of the deal and went off into space.

After only a few episodes, the show was put on hiatus. Dwayne, having tarnished his reputation, began looking for other ways to fund his company. Unfortunately, the show returned from hiatus, in a retooled fashion, with orders to find tougher villains. That led to the event in Stamford, Connecticut (Civil War #1). The team went after four fugitives – Nitro, Speedfreek, Cobalt and Coldheart -- who had escaped from maximum security incarceration. They took down three of the targets, but tragically saved Nitro for last. He was the villains’ most powerful member and ignited a blast that killed more than 600 people, including the New Warriors (although, later, it was learned that Speedball had survived due to his kinetic shielding).

Height: 6’3’

Weight: 225 lbs

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Black

Powers: No known powers, but has mental barriers and blocks that thwart mental and psionic attacks. Barriers believed to have been installed by his former housekeeper Tai, but were never removed because of her death.
He is extremely skilled hand-to-hand combatant. He is knowledgeable in several martial arts, but excels in an unkown Japanese martial art. Thanks to his godfather and mentor, Andrew Chord, Thrasher is trained gymnast, a talented weapons and armor designer, and is highly proficient computer tapping, software coding, security set-up, and hacking. He is a brilliant strategist, a skill the New Warriors seriously lacked whenever he was not with the team, especially during their run-ins with the Soldiers of Misfortune (New Warriors, Vol. 1, #54-56) and their involvement in Tran-Sabal (NW, Vol. 1, #)

Accessories: In his original armor, Thrasher carries two one-foot truncheons, made of titanium, but recently coated in adamantium (after a secret visit to Larry Trask’s old Sentinel base). He also carries a plethora of weapons, including pepper spray, plastique, an Adamantium garrote wire, and napalm gel packs. Also an 8-inch spring-lock blade (also coated with adamantium). He recently replaced his Uzi machine pistol with an MP5 submachine gun, courtesy of The Punisher. He has also carried, on various occasions, magnesium flares, incendiary caps, smoke pellets, ball bearings and spur jacks. He used to have a rocket-propelled skateboard that contained a hidden spring-locked blade. He may have manufactured a new one sealed in adamantium or created one with a portable rocket pack for limited flight ability in emergencies, but it cannot be confirmed.

Night Thrasher’s original armor is bulletproof, knife-proof and punch-proof, as the Punisher found out (New Warriors, Vol. 1, #Cool. The suit also contains hydraulic systems that increased his strength and leaping abilities, and allowed him to run for long distances. His helmet includes a voice scrambler, infrared vision, telescopic vision, a built-in camera and film pack, a breathing apparatus with a 30-minute air supply, and enhanced listening devices.

He has altered his armor to accept new weapons systems. This includes a cooling unit to survive intense heat and fire; laser targeting for his MP5, a pressurized skinsuit to allow for survival in vacuums such as deep space, built-in motion detectors, a power pack that lets him jack into any of more than 1000 types of advanced weapons systems utilized by most of the world’s militaries, as well as those of groups such as A.I.M., Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D., and a computer interface to access computers.

Many of his new systems were created in large part by Dwayne himself, but it is believed that Cable played a vital role, as well, because S.H.I.E.L.D. will have a difficult time trying to analyze his armor’s abilities, much like they could not break down Cable’s weapons.

Note: The world believes Taylor, as Night Thrasher, died in Stamford, Connecticut when his reality television show went awry during the attempted apprehensions of several criminals, including Nitro. However, Taylor survived because he wasn’t in Stamford that day. His half-brother, Donyell, was wearing the armor in his place.

Donyell, (known as Bandit) and his fiancee, Silhouette – who had once been Taylor’s girlfriend – had been vainly trying to make their relationship work. After their involvement with the Thieves and Assassins Guild in New Orleans, they disappeared, trying to work out their problems. When Bandit heard about the New Warriors’ reality show, he saw it as a way to bring himself back into relevance. He pestered Dwayne to let him be on the show, even to the point where he shaved off his dreadlocks and tried a new costume that would be more fan-friendly. Dwayne resisted, rightly questioning his half-brother’s priorities.

That’s when Silhouette betrayed him. Before the Stamford incident, she came to Dwayne to ask one last time about allowing Bandit to be on the show. In reality, when he refused, she assaulted him with her crutches. The crutches contained tasers and needles tipped with a powerful sedative. She was forced to hit him with both crutches, an event which proved tragic.

The idea was for Bandit to put on Night Thrasher’s costume, using the voice scrambler in the mask to hide his voice. He would participate in the Stamford show and prove himself. After the show, he would reveal his identity and would hope that Silhouette might convince Dwayne to accept them both, especially since the cat would be out of the bag. The real plan was for Dwayne, once he recovered from Sil’s attack, to “come to his senses” and feed Bandit instructions through the costume’s miniature radio so that Bandit could handle whatever situation arose.

Alas, Sil’s double jolt with her crutches put Dwayne out for the entire show. Without guidance from Dwayne and being unfamiliar with Dwayne’s methods, Bandit made a tragic error in deferring command of the team to Speedball. Bandit went with the flow and used his martial arts skills, whereas Dwayne would have used his strategic ability to take out Nitro first (and, probably, would have called off the whole stunt had he known the villains that were inside the house (Civil War #1).

The real tragedy lay in Sil’s assault. Dwayne had been working on a way to end the reality show before the incident in Stamford. He had discovered that Chord’s illegal deals included side deals where he sold weapons to A.I.M. and Hydra and pocketed the profits himself. He salted the money away in offshore accounts in the names of Dwayne and his parents, hoping to finance a new team of heroes once Tai’s scheme was undone. But, knowledge of the accounts disappeared when Chord tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head (NW, Vol. 1, #1Cool. Dwayne only recently stumbled on the accounts and learned that, by putting the money under the names of Dwayne and his parents, Chord had inadvertently transferred the money to Dwayne.

Dwayne was in the process of using that money to restart the Taylor Foundation. On the night of Sil’s attack, he was about to transfer money to the producers of his reality show so that he could break the contract. Thus, Sil’s attack and Bandit’s ill-timed plan led to the Stamford incident, not Night Thrasher.

When Dwayne awoke, he found Silhouette gone. On the television, he heard about the New Warriors and their deaths in Stamford. He figured the man portraying Night Thrasher had been Bandit and that was why Silhouette had split, too overcome by her guilt at helping cause the incident. But, Dwayne was also ruined. He could not appear publicly now that his name was associated with Stamford, which meant he could not stick around when the government took over and dissolved the Taylor Foundation to help pay remunerations to the families of the victims. He could not contact any of the remaining current and former members of the New Warriors and couldn’t even attend the funerals for Microbe and Namorita. He could not even talk to Chord, fearing the Feds would be watching him and Sprocket after the registration act was passed.

But, outside events finally spurred him back into action. For one thing, he desperately wanted to salvage the good name of the New Warriors. Secondly, he learned that the government had not discovered the secret bank accounts. He tapped into them and used them to fund TransFinancial (using the initials “TF” from “Taylor Foundation”). Finally, the act that put him back on the street and back into action was a visit from…Andrew Chord.

Chord had never believed that it was Dwayne at Stamford. He had trained Dwayne to be a leader and a strategist, skills Dwayne had proven time and time again, like when he’d planned and executed the rescue of Kymaera (Namorita) from the clutches of Undertow and Protocol (NW Vol. 1, #73). Night Thrasher’s lack of leadership and strategy at Stamford led Chord to believe it was not Dwayne in the costume. Following the assassination of Captain America, Chord tried to find a way to fight back and consulted an ally in hiding – Cable. During a visit to the now defunct Taylor Foundation headquarters, Chord and Cable found that someone had beaten them to the punch in trying to dig up any information the Feds had missed. Cable scanned the area and found nothing, save for a void, an area that blocked out his telepathy. They tracked the culprit, but the man slipped away using incredible skill and savvy. That was the first inkling Chord had that Dwayne might be alive, as he knew about the mental blocks Tai had put into Dwayne’s brain, blocks that had allowed him to resist the telepathic assaults of such enemies as the White Queen, Gamesmaster and Genecide.

Through much effort, Andrew Chord finally located Dwayne and they had a heartfelt reunion. Dwayne explained his desire to put together a new team. Chord agreed, saying that he’d wanted to put on the armor himself, but felt he was getting too old (having been a sergeant in Vietnam, Chord was rapidly approaching 60). Dwayne told him of the secret funds, but Chord could only nod in agreement, remembering nothing of them, thanks to Tai.

They put their heads together and began formulating a roster. The biggest problem was that those with known superpowers had either been arrested or recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. or were being hunted. The remaining New Warriors were included in that assessment (save for Nova, who was still in space dealing with the Annihilation Wave). The only real people left were former mutants who had lost their powers, thanks to the Scarlett Witch. Most had welcomed the loss of their powers and the chance to live normal lives. So, Dwayne had to be extra careful in who he tried to recruit, but he was able to get in touch with several, thanks to Cable, who also provided some (futuristic, as it turned out) discs that could give a person powers.

Now, Dwayne has the means of bringing the New Warriors back, with the goal of redemption, of stopping the world’s slide into anarchy, a slide brought about by his old team. Together with his mentor, Chord, he seeks to reclaim his team’s original goal – to make a difference in the world.
